Semper Tua

Film project — poster art & post-production

Semper Tua is a short film directed by Wesley Remory and released in 2025, produced under the banner of Midsplatternight Pictures. The film inhabits a subdued dystopian space, where the boundaries between care, obsession, love, and delusion gradually dissolve.

The story follows a man living according to his own internal rhythm — guided by memory, devotion, and something that resembles love, yet resists easy definition. Rather than relying on overt spectacle, Semper Tua unfolds quietly and deliberately, allowing atmosphere, tension, and emotional ambiguity to take precedence.

Seen through the lens of Midsplatternight Pictures, the film aligns with a broader ambition to cultivate old-school Belgian underground horror and dystopian cinema, rooted in mood, texture, and psychological unease rather than excess.

Contribution

For Semper Tua, Vespertine Offering was responsible for:

  • Poster art

  • Post-production of the film

The poster artwork was developed to visually echo the film’s themes of devotion, isolation, and psychological drift. Rather than functioning as a purely promotional image, it was conceived as an extension of the film’s atmosphere — restrained, suggestive, and deliberately ambiguous.

In post-production, the focus lay on reinforcing the film’s pacing and tonal balance. Careful attention was given to mood, cohesion, and visual consistency, ensuring that the final result remained faithful to the film’s introspective and unsettling character.

Context: Midsplatternight Pictures

Midsplatternight Pictures was founded as an extension of the Midsplatternight Festival, with the explicit goal of creating and supporting a line of Belgian underground genre films. Operating independently, the collective prioritises creative freedom, atmosphere-driven storytelling, and a return to the spirit of classic underground horror and dystopian cinema.

Semper Tua stands as one of the early film projects produced under this banner. A dedicated page documenting Midsplatternight Pictures and its filmography will follow separately.

Position within Vespertine Offering

The work on Semper Tua sits naturally within Vespertine Offering’s broader focus on dark aesthetic storytelling across media. It reflects a continued interest in psychological tension, visual restraint, and narrative ambiguity — themes that recur throughout photographic, literary, and musical projects developed under the same name.
