Midsplatternight pictures

Underground genre film production

Midsplatternight Pictures emerged from the Midsplatternight film festival, an independent initiative founded in the early 2000s by a small group of friends with a shared passion for underground, genre-driven cinema.

After several festival editions, the project expanded beyond screenings. In 2008, this resulted in the publication of The Gore Compendium — a book documenting and contextualising the festival’s spirit and aesthetic. Shortly thereafter, Midsplatternight entered a period of dormancy.

The project was revived in 2013, and over the following years gradually shifted focus from curation to creation. This evolution ultimately led to the establishment of Midsplatternight Pictures, a production banner dedicated to creating and releasing independent short films rooted in Belgian underground horror, dystopian, and transgressive cinema.

Rather than pursuing volume or visibility, Midsplatternight Pictures prioritises atmosphere, practical execution, and creative autonomy. Early releases were distributed on DVD, reinforcing a tangible, archival approach aligned with the project’s underground ethos.

Position within Vespertine Offering

The collaboration with Midsplatternight Pictures aligns naturally with Vespertine Offering’s broader focus on dark aesthetic storytelling across media. It extends this practice into the cinematic realm, where atmosphere, restraint, and material presentation play a central role.

Midsplatternight Pictures remains an ongoing initiative, continuing to explore the boundaries of independent genre cinema while maintaining its roots in underground culture and self-driven production.
